Reading Project

Frankenstein – Mary Shelley

This book written in 1818 also called “The modern Prometheus” tells us the story of a scientist that was obsessed with two things: creating a living form with human parts and his stepsister Elizabeth Lavenza.

This man used his knowledge from the university to make experiments with human parts taken from graves, until he succeeded in this task creating a living anthropomorphic creature with his own intelligence. When Victor saw the creature, he turned repulsed by his creation and run away getting sick. The monster escaped and looked for and stayed in a shelter, reading books and getting knowledge and culture.

After four months, the monster found Victor in the mountains and demanded the creation of a female companion to him, and Frankenstein accepted this terms. Just before ending the female monster, Victor destroyed it because it would have been be dangerous if they had had children, and the monster took revenge by killing Elizabeth with his own hands. Seeking revenge, Victor pursued the monster across the world until the North Pole but he died before catching him. At the end the creature found Victor’s body and cried, later he swore killing himself and got lost in the ice raft.

Every action has consequences, and we have to deal with them. In the modern world we could see to many examples like the invention of the first gun that was the beginning of a revolution or armory that was the starting point of a war and led too many deaths in the recent history.

This book teaches us that we are responsible of our actions, and we have to think before making an action, like the discovery of the radioactivity which is used in the wrong way by countries to make bombs and destroy other places, knowing that this can be used in a positive way like making energy for our homes.

Crazy Technology

In a futuristic world, where technology is so advanced until the Artificial Intelligence, a trastorned man fell in love with a machine.

An Operative System called Samantha, this system is able to talk like a human and interact with people, but here comes the sad part of the history, because the machine is used by thousands of users across the world and he wants the machine just for him.

Samantha told him that she is in love with other user, after this to many things happenned in the man's ife until the machine broke with him. At the end, he apologized with his wife but it did not help at all.

I can compare this movie with Black Mirror series, in the episode 2 of the season 3 "Playtest" with a man who is connected to a machine to see Virtual Reality but this in the end turns him insane.

Also, it can be compared with Flubber by Robin Williams, in that movie the computer in the lab falls in love with the doctor in a funny way.

I think that the technology is something very delicated when it is mixed with love, you can use it to make the things a little bit easier and confortable, but not to get fully involved in it.
